FIELD: mining industry. SUBSTANCE: this can be used in ensuring safety driving of underground workings through gas-containing and outburst-risky coal seams. According to method, determined are critical values of gas emission from cut coal and in work-face space and these values are compared with actual values of gas emission in extracting coal by cutter-loader machine. Additionally determined is critical concentration of methane in work-face space and actual concentration of methane during operation of cutter-loader machine. If actual concentration of methane exceeds critical value, determined is value of index of gas-dynamic danger according to formula which takes into consideration concentration of methane in work-face space before extracting mineral, also 15 min after extracting mineral, and maximal value at extracting and if actual value of gas emittance from cut coal exceeds critical value. At value of index of gas-dynamic danger lower than 0.65, zone is considered as outburst-risky. If actual gas emission in work-face space of underground working exceeds critical value and if index of gas-dynamic danger is higher than 0.8, zone of coal seam is considered as dangerous by gas emission.
