FIELD: chemistry of polymerization. SUBSTANCE: olefin polymerization catalyst comprises transition metal selected from group IIIA metals including lanthanides of groups IVA, VA, VIA, VII A and VIII of Periodic Table, and ligands L1 and L2 associated therewith where (1) combination of ligand L1 and L2 which is group containing at least one phosphorus containing group of ligand L1, whish is ligand L2, having σ-bond, or ligand having σ-bond and bond selected from at least one π-bond and at least one electron donor bond formed by free electron pair and (2) combination of ligand L1, which is 5-membered heterocyclic pentadentate ligand having one or more heteroatoms, and ligand L2, which is ligand having σ- bond, or ligand having σ-bond and bond selected from at least one π-bond and at least one electron donor bond formed by free electron pair provided that when pentadentate ligand contains only one heteroatom, L2 is ligand having σ-bond, or ligand having σ-bond and at least one electron donor bond formed by free electron pair; (3) combination of ligand L1, which is tripyrazolyl-tridentate ligand, and ligand L2, which is alkapolyenyl ligand and each L1 contains group VB or group VIB group element. The catalyst has exceedingly high catalyst activity with respect to olefin polymerization reaction as compared with ordinary olefin polymerization catalyst. EFFECT: improved properties of olefin polymerization catalyst. 8 cl, 3 tbl
