FIELD: mechanical engineering; percussive tools with reciprocating working members such as picks, perforators, vibrators, tampers. SUBSTANCE: engine has cylindrical housing with cover and bottom, piston-striker arranged in housing and spring-loaded in axial direction, combustion chamber formed between end face of piston-striker and cover, underpiston space formed between second end face and bottom, return spring and working tool shank installed coaxially in underpiston space. Shank of working tool projects outside through hole in bottom. Cam profile and toothed rack are made on side surface of piston-striker in longitudinal direction. Rack, together with gear installed in housing opposite to rack, forms starting mechanism. Part of teeth of gear is cut off. Teeth on rack and gear are shortened in length in step to suit each other. Bypass channel is made in body of piston-striker to provide communication of piston-striker underpiston space at end of working stroke in turn with combustion chamber and with atmosphere through scavenging and discharge channels made in housing.
