FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: pentaerythrite is prepared by condensation of formaldehyde with acetaldehyde in the presence of calcium hydroxide and boric acid. To make process more efficient and to improve quality of pentaerythrite with respect to melting point and color index, condensation is carried out at initial temperature of mixture of calcium hydroxide, formalin and water (19- 23 C) with addition of acetaldehyde to solution temperature of 38-44 C. Boric acid is added at 28 C. Molar ratio of reactants, namely acetaldehyde, formaldehyde, calcium oxide and boric acid is 1: 4, 6: 0.6:(0.016-0.032). The claimed method makes it possible to prepare pentaerythrite with melting point of 258 C and color index of 100. EFFECT: more efficient preparation method. 1 tbl
