FIELD: variable control of fuel injection for compression ignition engines. SUBSTANCE: electronic fuel injection system for compression ignition engine with displacement volume of each cylinder being at least 5.5 l has individual fuel injection mechanisms, such as fuel injection pump with permanent-volume fuel injection chamber and fuel injectors for each respective cylinder, as well as adjustable-signal generator, such as multichannel optical coding device connected to camshaft and used for generating cylinder control signal and index signal. System also has electronic control gear, such as great number of individual controllers responding to input signals of various sensors, including cylinder control signal and index signal, for electronic control of individual fuel-injection mechanisms. The latter operate in response to output signals coming from controller and provide for volumetric fuel flow of 100 to 1600 cu.mm per stroke in fuel-injection pressure range about 10- 20 pound/kV-inch to respective fuel injector. Each fuel injection mechanism has electronically controlled solenoid valve operating in response to output signal combined with selective valve hydraulically coupled with solenoid.
