FIELD: shipbuilding. SUBSTANCE: device, being a balancing one, has outer and inner plungers forming upper and lower spaces. Lower space is filled with liquid and upper space, with compressed air at constant designed pressure. Assembly units are installed on basic supports. Balancing devices are placed under supports on ship base. Using the devices, assembly units are lifted and mated surfaces are butt-joined. Abutting surfaces are tack welded and then weld seam is formed. In process of welding, alignment of assembly units is carried out with compensation for seam shrinkage. EFFECT: improved quality of weld joint owing to introduction of system watching changes in seam in process of welding. 3 cl, 2 dwg
