Solution of peracetic acid having molar ratio of hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid less than 10:1 (ratio 5:1 being preferred) is fed into central zone of diffuser. Molar ratio of hydrogen peroxide and peracetic acid in peracetic acid solution which is fed into recycled pulp pressed water may be from 12:1 to 120:1, ratio from 18:1 to 54:1 being preferred.
