FIELD: sugar industry, in particular, equipment for removing light contaminants from water flows. SUBSTANCE: top catcher has carcass, driving and tightening units secured to carcass. Each unit has two pairs of sprockets and roller-and-sleeve chains put onto sprockets. Top catcher is further provided with rake pivotally hung on horizontal hangers, which connect links of two chain branches, device for removing light contaminants from rake teeth and contaminant collecting tray. Contaminant removal device has guiding plate composed of two parts, with first part in the course of advancement of rake being attached to carcass and second part being connected to first part and carcass by means of detachable fastening members. Parts of guiding plates are connected by lap joint. EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified construction and enhanced reliability in operation. 2 cl, 2 dwg
