FIELD: nondestructive testing of materials. SUBSTANCE: process can be used to detect flaws in extended objects such as pipes of main line pipe-line transport. Process lies in magnetization of article or part of it, in detection of magnetic fields emerging above flaws by detectors moved above tested surface. Vector function of distribution of intensity of magnetic field along line of arrangement of detectors is plotted by signals from them. Aggregation of informative parameters which are compared with values of similar parameters of standard functions characterizing typical flaws is determined. Presence, parameters and type of flaws are defined by comparison results. EFFECT: enhanced sensitivity and reliability of testing of pipes and other extended objects. 11 dwg, 1 tbl
