FIELD: radiation detection, specifically, dosimeters measuring radiation dose. SUBSTANCE: quantity of ionizing radiation to which thermal luminescent material was subjected is determined by way of preliminary cooling of thermal luminescent material to temperature below 290 K. Then thermal luminescent material is subjected to action of light. Visible light emitted by thermal luminescent material with its heating to room temperature is recorded and counted. Thermal luminescent material can be recovered by action of ultraviolet radiation on it. Device reading radiation dose has aid that subjects dosimeter to action of light radiation, aid that cools dosimeter to cryogenic temperature, aid that subjects dosimeter to action of ultraviolet radiation and aid that detects and counts light emitted by dosimeter with heating. Dosimeter for radiation recording is manufactured from thermal luminescent material containing polycrystalline compound with addition of metal element which concentration amounts to one to fifteen per cent by weight. Thermal luminescent material is enclosed in plastic matrix. EFFECT: increased efficiency of usage of such dosimeters and their enhanced sensitivity to radiation dose. 30 cl, 6 dwg
