FIELD: metallurgy, sheet and plate rolling. SUBSTANCE: method determining planeness of moving strip of material is based on measurement of angle formed by lines crossing plane tangent to surface of strip in measurement point and plane tangent to supporting members over which strip moves with plane passing through measurement point and located along direction of movement of strip perpendicular to plane tangent to supporting members over which strip moves. Relative elongation of longitudinal sections of strip isolated by measuring device are computed from conditions , , where is elongation of m-th longitudinal section of strip isolated by measuring device with reference to projection of specified section on plane tangent to supporting members along which strip moves ( m=1, 2, 3 ); N is number of measurements used in averaging; γm,i - is sought-for angle in radians for m-th longitudinal section of strip isolated by measuring device in i-th measurement, ( i=1, 2, 3 ); γm,i+1 - is sought-for angle in radians for m-th longitudinal section of strip isolated by measuring device in i+1-th measurement; βm - is relative elongation of m-th longitudinal section of strip isolated by measuring device; is elongation of shortest longitudinal section of strip isolated by measuring device with regard to projection of specified section on to plane tangent to supporting members along which strip moves.
