FIELD: equipment for reading optical disks. SUBSTANCE: device has systems for reading CD and DVD formats which have different synchronization signals. System for reading CD format has synchronization detector and analyzes detection of CD synchronization signal at output of CD synchronization signal detector. CD reading system is triggered for operations in CD reading mode only if CD signal has been detected or if DVD signal has not been detected for some time. DVD reading system is triggered only if CD signal has not been detected for some time or if DVD signal has been detected. Device may have double-focus optical reading head for CD and DVD disks respectively. Claims of invention describes device design variants and method for reading optical disks.
