FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: compressed air from compressed air source (bottle) is delivered to starting pneumatic electrically controlled valve. Then shafts of pneumatic motor and engine to be started are brought into engagement by gears. Starting pneumatic valve operates under compressed air pressure in control line, and working flow of compressed air passes to pneumatic motor. Shaft of engine to be started is driven up to starting speed. Pressure transmitter picks up pressure rise in delivery line of cooling system water pump or fuel feed pump. When pressure rises to value of engine starting conditions, pressure relay operates and starting pneumatic valve is cut off. Gears are brought out of engagement. Starting pneumatic valve cuts off flow of compressed air from compressed air source. Now pneumatic motor of starter is stopped and engine is started. EFFECT: enhanced economy at engine starting because of excluding of compressed air overexpenditure. 5 cl, 1 dwg
