FIELD: engraving machines. SUBSTANCE: method includes automatic loading and unloading of cylinder 14 in engraving machine 10. Method provides for mounting cylinders 14 of different geometry in engraving machine 10 including various range of length, diameters and mounting configurations. Engraving machine 10 has headstock 16 and tailstock 18 which act together for supporting cylinder 14 retaining its rotation in engraving position 15 in engraving machine 10 which also includes cylinder motion system provided with at least one support 30 for supporting cylinder 14 between headstock 16 and tailstock 18 in loading and unloading cylinder 14. Cylinder motion system has drive for motion of cylinder support 30 in way of engraving position and in way of removal from this position till headstock 16 and tailstock 18 grip cylinder 14 and start supporting it retaining its rotation. As soon as cylinder 14 is supported at rotation between headstock 16 and tailstock 18, cylinder support 30 is removed. Each support 30 contains telescopic supporting member fitted with bearing seat for receiving and supporting cylinder 14 in engraving position 15. EFFECT: enhanced reliability. 48 cl, 6 dwg
