FIELD: metallurgy; production of sinter cake in conveyer machines. SUBSTANCE: sintering machine includes loading device, fire grate, ignition hearth, movable carriage located under unloading device on which beam with rods is rigidly secured. When sintering machine is stopped, carriage moves in direction opposite to motion of grate together with rods and rods get out of zone where sinter burden acts on them. In starting the machine, rods are returned in their place by means of carriage, forming longitudinal passages in burden. Thus preset section of passages is maintained during protracted stops of machine due to removal of rods from zone of their contact with sinter burden which enhances gas permeability of layer of burden as sinter cake.
