FIELD: nuclear power engineering; pressure-tube graphite- uranium reactors. SUBSTANCE: fuel assembly has pile of fuel slugs mounted on support in vertical process channel and provided with neutron absorber inserted in its central space which carries coolant; product of its macroscopic section of absorption by volume of fissionable material referred to sum of products of macroscopic sections of absorption and respective volumes of channel, shell, insert, coolant, moderator, and absorber materials containing isotopes of thorium, boron, and rare- earth elements ranges between 1.2 and 9.7. EFFECT: improved uniformity of absorber burnout relative to fuel burnout while maintaining negative steam reactivity coefficient during entire life of reactor. 2 cl, 4 dwg
