FIELD: nuclear energy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of operation of nuclear reactors, intended for production of fissile chemical elements. Method of nuclear reactor operation in fuel cycle with extended production of fissile isotopes involves initial loading of active zone with fuel assemblies, containing fissile material and raw isotopes, generation of neutron flux intensity and its energy distribution, at which raw isotopes change into isotopes, capable of nuclear fission, control of operation of reactor power by holding in critical state, providing balance between neutrons production and absorption. At reduction of reactor power generation formation of neutron flux intensity and its energy distribution is carried out by reduction of energy release in central part of reactor core with increasing of neutron flux on periphery of reactor core.
EFFECT: reactor core is surrounded by reflector or blanket, containing isotopes of uranium and/or plutonium, and/or thorium.
