FIELD: forestry and wood-working industry, in particular, primary working of timber. SUBSTANCE: method involves moving timber 1 through working system 3 cooperating with bark removed from timber under process. Working system 3 is formed by ferromagnetic particles, placed in working space 6 between outside electromagnetic field source 7, and timber surface to be debarked, with ferromagnetic particle sizes being equal to or exceeding bark thickness, but not in excess of 1/12-1/8 of timber diameter. Average electromagnetic induction in working space 6 is of value providing adherence of particles to bark at force at least equal to binding force between bark and timber cambial layer. Method provides optimum surrounding and clinging of timber bark surfaces by working system 3. EFFECT: increased efficiency in timber debarking and improved debarking quality regardless of timber type, increased wear resistance of working system and simplified construction. 5 cl, 3 dwg
