FIELD: mechanical engineering; transport facilities. SUBSTANCE: universal joint is used for transmission of rotary motion between shafts at point of intersection of their axes which intersect not at constant angle. Joint has drive and driven forks with intermediate link. All contact surfaces of drive and driven forks and connecting link are flat and cylindrical, i.e. they are first-degree surfaces. Contact between engageable parts is effected over flats, not linearly or at points. Sizes of contact flats are varying. EFFECT: reduced overall dimensions; possibility of building joint in other functional units, for example, inside knuckle pin on controllable drive wheels of automobiles, tractors, etc. 2 cl, 8 dwg
