SUBSTANCE: working portion of taper surfaces of spring rings is provided with regular microrelief in form of helical surface; direction of coils on engageable taper surfaces is opposite. method consists in imparting rotational motion to part and imparting the feed motion to tool at reversing the part rotation when tool is returned to the initial position. Machining is effected in succession by one tool which is turned through 180 deg after machining of one part and before machining of another part. Turning the tool is effected about axis which coincides with common axis of taper surfaces; top of tool is moved over circle whose radius is equal to radius of common base of taper surfaces. After each reversible motion, tool is shifted over circle of part by amount of angular pitch of grooves being formed; number of reversible runs is equal to number of starts of helical surface to be profiled.
