FIELD: agriculture, in particular, widening of natural licorice brushwoods. SUBSTANCE: method involves mowing aboveground part of plants and cutting surface soil layer bearing root necks and black heads; determining age, boundaries and direction of development of rootstock in licorice associations; cutting off root fruits and part of vertical and horizontal roots at an angle to direction of development in slits at variable space, with land relief being taken into account and cutting off being effectuated at continuous motion of apparatus, and reducing space from center to outer boundary of brushwood. Each working tool 23,25,27 for cutting root layers of soil and making root channels is formed as tine with two blades 37,38. Blade 37 is made L-shaped, with vertical part mounted in front of second vertical blade 38. Frame 14 has auxiliary beams 18,20 mounted within frame opening for displacement along frame axis. Frame 14 has brackets 22,24,26 for mounting working tools 23,25,27, with one working tool being positioned in mid portion of frame 14 and two other tools being disposed at ends of auxiliary beams 18,20.
