PROCESS FOR PREPARING N-BUTYL ACETATE Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: present invention describes process for preparing n-butyl acetate (NBAC) by esterification of n-butyl alcohol (NBAL) of acetic acid (AA). NBAC is prepared in reaction distilling column with mixture of ester and water taken from column top, and crude NBAC from column bottom at NBAC to NBAL ratio of (2-6):1 for spraying of column, temperature differential of liquid at column bottom and on recycle inlet tray (distillate of NBAL and water from column where they are distilled) of 25-60 C with recycle fed to 3-10 tt from reaction distilling column top. Bottom product in reaction distilling column is neutralized with alkali and directed into second column in which NBAL and water are separated as distillate, and bottom product of second column is evaporated in evaporator or distilled in third column to obtain commercial NBAL having purity of 99.5-99.8 wt % containing 0.003-0.004 wt % acid and 0.04-0.08 wt % water. Yield of the end product is at least 96%. EFFECT: more efficient preparation process.
