FIELD: ingot molds for continuous casting of thin slabs with thickness from 30 to 90 mm, and medium thickness slabs measuring from 90 to 150 mm thick. SUBSTANCE: ingot mold has movable side walls for regulation of width of slab, holding appliances and transverse rolls. Ingot mold includes expanded chamber for casting extending along its length and having widening part ensured by central curve determined by the first equivalent radius R. In this case, central curve at inlet of casting chamber is determined by equivalent radius R′ and width L equalling at least 500 mm with the value of side half-extension A equalling from 30 to 90 mm. In addition, casting chamber has within its length the first segment and final segment between which zone of curved connection is located. Length of final segment equals the value between one fourth and one sixth part of the total length of ingot mold, and final segment has the first final section determined by corresponding zone of curved connection, and the second final section with constant profile of its passage at least 120 mm in length with side half-extension B having value between 1 and 12.5 mm and determined by central curve with special first equivalent radius R″. Central curve of each expansion is conjugated by means of side curves with straight sides whose shape is determined by equivalent radius r of curved connection and whose value exceeds the value of respective first equivalent radius R by a factor of 1.5-3. Radii R and r may present the true radius and may characterize the polynomial curve. The ingot mold has also the first cylindrical rolls or the second cambered rolls and the third cylindrical or convex rolls. In this case, the second and third rolls are withdrawn from each other during introduction of dummy bar head and then they are brought together to slab as dummy bar is pulled. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 16 cl, 4 dwg
