SUBSTANCE: method comprises oxidizing liquid phase of original aromatic compound comprising at least one alkyl or acyl group capable of being oxidized with oxygen-containing gas in solvent containing low molecular weight carboxylic acid in the presence of oxidation catalyst comprising heavy metals at 121-131 to form reaction mixture of oxidation products, said mixture containing the resulting aromatic carboxylic acid. Reaction mixture is heated at temperature form at least 228-368 C to give second reaction mixture of oxidation products, aromatic carboxylic acid being then isolated from said mixture.
