FIELD: metal heat treatment, namely making hardened surface layer of martensite in products of low-carbon or low-alloy steels, mainly working in conditions of repeating impact engagement with other products, particularly in rail backings used in upper structure of railway road. SUBSTANCE: quenching apparatus may be used for hardening rolled stock. Apparatus includes at least one cooling section having cooling chamber, sprayers for supplying cooling liquid to openings of chamber and unit for transporting products. Each sprayer is arranged in such a way that there is air gap between its nozzle and respective opening of cooling chamber. EFFECT: improved design. 3 cl, 5 dwg
