FIELD: communication equipment using code-distribution multiple-station access. SUBSTANCE: method involves choosing transmission rate for separate voice encoders in accordance with other voice encoders. Device uses metrics which are weighted with respect to detection of errors used as input signal for rate controller which chooses and transmits chosen rates back to encoders. Device provides optimal sound quality and throughput capacity, since it allows decrease in transmission rate for some encoders, if this is necessary, while other encoders keep their transmission rate. This prevents unnecessary drop in sound quality, when throughput capacity of system should be increased temporarily. EFFECT: decreased system interference, increased throughput capacity. 25 cl, 7 dwg
