ULTRASONIC THICKNESS GAUGE Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

FIELD: nondestructive testing, measurement of residual thickness of walls of technological equipment in chemical, gas and oil producing industries. SUBSTANCE: thickness gauge has synchronizer, generator of sounding pulse, delay generator, count permitting flip-flop, amplifier, digital meter of pulse duration with adjusted basic frequency, control button, pulse converter, second flip-flop, two-input OR gate and differentiation circuit. Pulse converter has diode and RC circuit forming detector with time constant reconstructing attenuation time constant of acoustic signal. Capacitor is used to remove constant component across output of pulse converter. Thickness gauge can measure thickness in two manners: by time of delay between sounding pulse and first reflected pulse or by time interval between two reflected pulses. EFFECT: simplified calibration procedure and expanded functional capabilities of thickness gauge, enhanced sensitivity of thickness gauge. 1 cl, 3 dwg
