METHOD FOR NONDESTRUCTIVE ULTRASONIC INSPECTION OF WATER CONDUITS OF HYDRAULIC ENGINEERING FACILITIES Russian patent published in 2017 - IPC G01N29/04

Abstract RU 2613624 C1

FIELD: physics, acoustics.

SUBSTANCE: invention can be used to detect defects using ultrasonic techniques. The method comprises, during calibration of an ultrasonic flaw detector on a reference sample - a metal plate having the same thickness, shape and chemical composition as the water conduit and acoustically immersed in water, using a piezoelectric transducer to emit into the reference sample a probing ultrasound pulse, using the piezoelectric transducer to receive a reflected reference reverberation ultrasonic echo signal, which is detected and recorded, further, placing the piezoelectric transducer at the point of inspection on the surface of the metal water conduit, using the piezoelectric transducer to emit into the inspected water conduit a probing ultrasound pulse, using the piezoelectric transducer to receive the working ultrasonic echo signal, which is detected and recorded, further from the detected working echo signal subtracting the previously detected reference reverberation ultrasonic echo signal, the difference measurement echo signal obtained from subtraction is stored, and the depth of the water pocket is determined from the measured lag time of the first pulse of the difference measurement echo signal relative too the probing ultrasound pulse.

EFFECT: invention provides reliable and accurate inspection of double-layer structures, for which the first layer on the transducer side is made of material with low ultrasound attenuation, and the thickness of the second layer is smaller than that of the first layer.
