FIELD: electrophysical and electrochemical methods of machining. SUBSTANCE: invention refers to equipment protecting electrodes against short-circuits in process of pulse- cyclic electrochemical machining. Increased reliability and expanded technological capabilities of operation of gear are achieved by solving problem of active and visual control over peak level of pulses of technological current under conditions of its frequent interruption in process of machining and of considerable rise of absolute value of peak level of technological current by finish of machining. To solve the problem gear has two-step system of controlled peak detectors forming in sequence current controlled signal and current reference signal with mode of its storage, two controlled comparators operating first one under tracking mode with current reference signal and second one under condition of maximum current protection with specified reference signal. Increased operational reliability of protection gear takes place thanks to selective registration of level of reference signal in intervals between pulses of controlled signal by peak detector, to selectivity of control by comparators and to operation of tracking channel of protection by channel of maximum-current protection. Expanded functional capabilities are obtained due to usage of measurement of registered peak value of pulses of technological current.
