FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: foldable key has easily-detachable rod composed of parts which may be connected one with another. Ends of rod parts are formed as similar connecting members, each having projection and slot corresponding to that of similar member to be connected. Key is further provided with auxiliary member for retaining of rod parts. Projection and slot of connecting member are defined by faces extending in parallel with rod axis and joined with surfaces to be connected, preferably faces positioned perpendicular and/or inclined relative to rod axis, so that connecting members may be inserted one within another in single direction extending transverse to rod axis. Connecting member has maximum length in zone between two planes passing through faces extending in parallel with rod axis. Projection and slot of each connecting member have shape of geometrical figures, preferably of rectangular or trapezium shape, in axial section transverse of direction of insertion. Auxiliary retaining member has at least one flexible retainer mounted in rod along its axis and engageable with projection of at least one of connecting members adapted for engagement.
