BUS ARRANGEMENT OF ALUMINUM ELECTROLYZER Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

Abstract RU 2132888 C1

FIELD: aluminum production. SUBSTANCE: invention refers to production of aluminum by electrolysis of melted-down cryolite salts in electrolyzer designed for 250-320 kA with their transverse placement in electrolyzer body. In agreement with invention each package of buses in arrangement bending around faces of cathode enclosure of electrolyzer transmits from 35 to 50% of current of input side of electrolysis bath. 35 to 50% of current of input side passes correspondingly through packages of buses bending around cathode enclosure. Proposed bus arrangement includes anode stands located along longitudinal sides of electrolyzer, collecting buses with cathode escapements, collecting buses of output side, packages of cathode buses placed under electrolyzer bottom and packages enveloping faces of electrolyzer. Extreme stands are linked to extreme collecting buses of input side by means of packages of buses and to collecting buses of output side. Bus arrangement operates in the following way: current is transmitted to collecting cathode buses with the aid of cathode escapements and goes to stands of electrolyzer next in series over packages of buses. In this case 0-15% current of input side is transmitted over some packages and 35-50% is sent over other packages. Equal quantities of current passes through anode stands. Each stand feeds anode bus in certain point around which equal number of anodes is positioned in symmetry. EFFECT: increased output of metal by given current due to decreased effect of magnetic field on cathode aluminum. 4 dwg
