PROCESS OF MANUFACTURE OF MERCHANT-MILL PRODUCTS IN COMBINED CASTING AND ROLLING AGGREGATE AND GEAR FOR ITS REALIZATION Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, manufacture of small-section billets in combined casting and rolling aggregates. SUBSTANCE: process includes continuous casting of billet in billet continuous casting machine with maintenance of level of metal in mould, subsequent induction heating of billet, measurement of temperature of surface of billet and speed of its travel and rolling. In this case continuous casting and rolling of billet are conducted under uninterrupted mode. Inductors and rolling mill are arranged in one technological flow with mould. At start constant level of metal in mould is kept by adjustment of speed of pulling rollers of billet continuous casting machine and with beginning of rolling function of pulling rollers for keeping of level of metal in mould is transferred to first stand of rolling mill. Drives of pulling rollers and of first stand of rolling mill are coupled via switch by electric signalling system with indicator of metal level in mould. Induction heating of billet before rolling is performed with two heat flows created in two groups of inductors. First group includes inductors with constant rated power equal to half of rated value of power required for billet heating, second group has inductors with adjustable power. Power in each group is set on basis of measurement of temperature on surface of billet and speed of its travel.
