FIELD: mechanical engineering, in particular, combined working of stems, hydraulic cylinder plungers, axles, fingers and like parts of nonrigid shafts and tubes by stock removal and plastic deformation. SUBSTANCE: method involves rotating workpiece and simultaneously moving working head having oscillating cutting and deforming parts along workpiece from guiding sleeve to spindle of turning lathe; prior to initiating working process, applying tensile force to workpiece with following applying of axial oscillating motion. During working process, cutting part of working head stabilizes position of workpiece in size forming direction. Apparatus has working head with cutting and deforming parts positioned inside head for movement in size forming direction, front leading center and rear rotating center with guiding sleeve. Cutting part has variable rigidity members mounted for increasing resistance to displacement of cutting part along sectional guides from workpiece axis to periphery of cutting part guides. Resistance force component of variable rigidity members is axially aligned with direction of motion of cutting part. Method and apparatus allow working quality of nonrigid shafts and tubes in minimum rigid section to be improved, deviation of generatrices of these parts from rectilinearity to be decreased and stabilized, and workpieces of different length to be worked so that stable length formation is provided.
