FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: thermit rod for welding, soldering, cutting and surfacing of metal structures is made in form of thermit mixture with envelope shaped into cylinder and burning simultaneously with thermit mixture. Composition of thermit mixture, mass %, is as follows: reducing agent (boron or metal of aluminium, titanium or silicon group or alloys of silicon with ferrum, silicon with manganese, silicon with calcium, silicon with aluminium or their mixtures or mixtures of these alloys with boron) - 6 - 30; gas generating addition in form of nitrates of alkaline metals or ammonium or their mixture - 10 - 40; and copper oxide, the rest. Organic compositions can be additionally introduced into gas generating addition. Starch, sugar, urea, dicyanodiamide or their mixture can be used as organic composition. Thermit mixture can additionally contain 0.1-30 mas. % of nickel, or tin, or manganese, or chromium, or ferrum oxides or their mixture. In can contain also 0.1-10 mas.% of nickel, or tin, or manganese, or their mixture, and 0.1-10 mas.% of flux.
