FIELD: mechanical engineering; welding. SUBSTANCE: low volume welding seam is formed. Blanks are assembled with narrow clearance. Minimum clearance in lower part of butt joint is set. metal parts are first positioned relative to each other by alignment displacement member 10. Unloading projection 11 is made in seam base zone to form place of penetration. Prior to hidden arc welding with narrow clearance, sides formed by extremely narrow clearance are connected by gas-shielded electric arc welding with consumable electrode or inert gas-shielded automatic welding with tungsten electrode by making multi-layer welding beads each passing over entire width of minimum clearance. Alignment displacement member 10 is melted. EFFECT: provision of high quality of welding of thin-walled metal parts accessible from one side. 8 cl, 1 dwg
