FIELD: water treatment. SUBSTANCE: invention, in particular, relates to boring and formation (associated) waters from oil fields, lake and sea brines. Selective electrochemical oxidation of iodine and bromine is conducted in anode chamber of diaphragm electrolyzer. First, iodine is oxidized to redox potential of solution 460-520 mV and released on solid carrier. Then, bromine is oxidized in iodine-free solution to redox potential of solution 950-990 mV and desorbed by air. Treated water is first transferred into iodine-oxidation cathode chamber and then into bromine-oxidation cathode chamber of diaphragm electrolyzer. EFFECT: excluded formation of toxic and radioactive wastes and reduced expenses on liming and dehalogenation of treated water. 3 cl, 3 tbl, 3 ex
