FIELD: thermal treatment of tightly wound coils of sheet cold-rolled steel strips, for example, sheet iron, automobile body sheets, etc. SUBSTANCE: cooling the charge is the most extensive stage of the coil annealing cycle in bell-type furnace: heating takes 30 to 50 hours at delays and cooling takes 60 to 90 hours. Method consists in watering the muffle from above from header of special-purpose cooling bell mounted on stand after removal of heating bell. Cooling water is fed by stepped manner, not continuously; ratio of duration of supply to duration of disconnected ranges from 0.1 to 100 and may change in the course of cooling the charge. EFFECT: intensification of charge cooling process; reduced consumption of water.
