FIELD: metering oxygen content of gases (exhaust gases of internal-combustion engines). SUBSTANCE: sensing element 14 has oxygen ion conducting body 23 with solid electrolyte in the form of tube closed on both ends that carries external electrode 25 on its outer surface, and also with conductor track 27 arranged on outer surface at side of connections; this body is inserted together with sealing ring 20 into metal casing 11. Sensing element 14 has insulating layer 21 at least in vicinity of sealing ring 20 which covers at least conductor track 27 running to casing 11. Insulating layer 21 is formed of nonmetal crystal material and glass-forming material. During manufacture, insulating layer 21 is subjected to heat treatment at temperature higher than melting point of glass- forming material; insulating layer 21 forms glaze filled with nonmetal crystal material.
