FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, particularly, production of highly machinable steels, more precisely, of alloyed free-cutting steels. SUBSTANCE: method includes introduction into metal stream of bismuth- containing alloy in form of bismuth-manganese alloy with the following amount of components, wt.%: bismuth 70-75; manganese 25-30. EFFECT: maximum reduction of bismuth losses, more uniform distribution of bismuth in ingot volume with the help of alloy containing no components which may affect steel chemical composition. 1 tbl
