REAGENT FOR CLAY DRILLING FLUID Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

FIELD: oil and gas production industry. SUBSTANCE: this relates to drilling of oil and gas wells and namely to drilling fluids used for their washing. Reagent includes tall pitch and sodium hydroxide and additionally it includes peat. Proportion of ingredients is as follows, mass part: tall pitch 100, sodium hydroxide 4-12, peat 10-70. Reagent is produced in result of sintering of aforesaid ingredients during 1-2 h at temperature of 120-150 C. Tall pitch is distillation residue from rectification of tall oil. Used is milled commercial-grade peat with moisture content of 50-70% and with size of particles equal to 3-7 mm. Reagent is actually solid easily ground substance, readily solving in water and clayey suspensions. Recommended content of reagent for drilling fluids is 1.5-2.5% in mass of their volume. Application of aforesaid reagent results in overall improvements of inhibiting, lubricating and filtration properties of drilling fluid together with reduction of amount of reagent needed for treatment.
