FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines. SUBSTANCE: in proposed internal combustion engine two-cylinder pyramidal piston is used. Reduced diameter working piston is placed in corresponding cylinder whose working volume provides building of less than half-of required (designed) value of air-fuel mixture compression ratio in combustion chamber. Engine employs for its operation a new method of air-fuel mixture compression by piston placed in reduced diameter cylinder with reduced working volume and compressor used to build more than half of required (designed) value of air-fuel mixture compression ratio in combustion chamber and a new method of using high-pressure hot gases formed after ignition and combustion of compressed air-fuel mixture in combustion chamber. Hot gases act onto working piston in reduced volume of reduced diameter cylinder. Effective system of using high-pressure hot gases in reduced diameter cylinder with reduced working volume is employed as gas pressure drop in such cylinder par unit of path covered by piston on its way from TDC to BDC is less than that in standard engine. EFFECT: reduced fuel consumption. 3 cl, 2 dwg
