FIELD: purification of water to trap heavy metals, organic compounds, including colorants. SUBSTANCE: cellulose material is treated in two stages: in first stage heat treatment is carried out at 300-350 C for 180-210 minutes and material is then gradually cooled to 20 C for 30-120 minutes, and second heat treatment is carried out at 700- 720 for 120-150 minutes. EFFECT: simplified process of preparing carbon sorbent and absence of activator and protective medium of process and shorter, duration thereof, increased yield of final products and high sorption activity of the carbon sorbent. 2 cl, 1 tbl
