FIELD: measurement technology, diagnostics of articles with employment of acoustic emission, prediction of defects in pipe-lines, in pipe-line valves and industrial tanks. SUBSTANCE: technical result of invention lies in making of prediction of development of local defective structures on basis of one measurement and in determination of residual resource of structure of article by results of analysis of its condition to present time without knowledge of prehistory of development of local defects observed in it. Method includes reception and recording of signals of acoustic emission. First coordinates of each defective structure are found and parameters of signals of individual sources of acoustic emission are measured per each defective structure. Sources of signals are presented in space of measured parameters of signals. Then tendency of development of macrocrack that is source of most powerful signals of acoustic emission in defective structure among detected signals is defined by way of extrapolation of curve plotted by measured values of parameters of all sources of signals of defective structure. Value of operational time of article from start of formation of macrocrack is evaluated by curves obtained per each defective structure and residual resource of article in time is found by value of operational time of most developed structure.
