APPARATUS FOR SHAPING TUBES Russian patent published in 1999 - IPC

FIELD: plastic metal working, namely shaped tube production. SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes housing, deforming rollers and mechanism for moving rollers to working and idling positions in the form of two sleeves. First sleeve is rigidly secured to housing and it has inner cone surfaces for engaging with rotary cams. Second sleeve is arranged inside housing with possibility of coaxial motion together with it, it is fixed against turning relative to it and has protrusions on outer and end surfaces. Drawing die is stationary mounted inside second sleeve coaxially to it. Apparatus is mounted in drawing bench. Leading end of tube blank is preliminarily upset, then it is introduced in apparatus for shaping tube, with use of gripper it is drawn through drawing die for finally upsetting blank end portion until nominal diameter value. Then rotary ring is rotated until matching its slits with protrusion on outer surface of movable sleeve. The last is subjected to action of friction forces between moving tube and drawing die mounted in it. Sleeve moves along tube drawing direction and attracts rollers secured to cams. Cams slide along cone surfaces of stationary sleeve and force rollers to be pressed in tube wall. In the result lengthwise grooves that define tube profile are formed. Number of grooves corresponds to number of rollers. When rollers reach rear end of tube the last is fed backwards. Second sleeve subjected to action of springs also moves in direction opposite relative to tube shaping direction and rollers are shifted from tube. At rotating rotary ring protrusions of movable sleeve and slits of ring are mutually disengaged and rollers are stopped in idling position.
