FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method refers to test and setting of axis of predominantly long-length articles of cylindrical form, for instance, pipes, relative to some basic direction in space preset with the aid of sighting channel specifically realized on basis of television equipment. Proposed method is more specifically related to test and setting of specified relative positions of monitor carriage installations and television guidance of these their barrels. After pointing of datum axis at first remote mark with the use of first TV camera datum axis is fixed in this position, axis of installed article is aligned with optical axis of second TV camera and is aimed at second remote mark set with allowance for parallax, adjacent to first mark. After it second mark is turned about its longitudinal axis and error of setting of axis is computed. Description gives design of device for realization of method. EFFECT: possibility of alignment of long-length articles impenetrable for through observation, for instance, plugged at one end with provision for adjustment of systems with electric motor drives having uncompensated drift and risk of separation with simultaneous allowance for asymmetry of form of channel of barrel of long-length article. 5 cl, 4 dwg
