FIELD: communication equipment. SUBSTANCE: method involves method involves analog-to-digital converting of received signals in order to produce digital samples, which are compared to values of samples expected for each sequence from set of possible character sequences using scaling weight, which depends on each sequence of characters in order to detect mismatch value of each sequence. Mismatch values are logically consistent. Then, lowermost accumulated mismatch value is selected from all previous sequences, which may logically precede current sequence, which is stored for mismatch value for the current sequence. Selected mismatch identifies best previous sequence. Then method involves choosing scaling weight which depends on best previous sequence and update of chosen scaling weight in order to produce scaling weight which depends on new current sequence. EFFECT: storage and updating or discarding of automatic level regulation parameters in parallel with detection of data combination transmitted with maximal probability. 25 cl, 6 dwg
