FIELD: pyrotechnics. SUBSTANCE: method may be used in technology of preparation of low-gas pyrotechnic compositions usable for pyrotechnic retarders and heating articles. The method consists in mixing of powders of boron and metal of side subgroup of Periodic system groups IV and V in stoichiometric ratio with subsequent addition of excess of metal and additional mixing. Sizes of particles of added metal excess exceeds those of particles of stoichiometric mixture. EFFECT: changed energy parameters of pyrotechnics composition and extended range of use of various pyrotechnic compositions without changing ratio of initial components, and increased range of application of various pyrotechnic compositions. 2 tbl
