FIELD: chemical technology, more particularly recovery of acetylene from discharge gases in process for preparing acetylene and formaldehyde-based butindiol. SUBSTANCE: described is method of recovery of acetylene from discharge gases in the production of 1,4-butindiol and formaldehyde and in the production of N-vinyl-pyrrolidone by vinylation of alpha-pyrrolidone containing acetylene, nitrogen, methanol and formaldehyde. Absorption is carried out at excess pressure of 0.02-1.0 MPa using, as absorbent, mixed solvent containing N-methyl-pyrrolidone and 1,4-butadiol which has concentration of 1-8 wt % in absorbent, at discharge gas to absorbent volumetric ratio of (5-30):1 followed by desorption of acetylene from saturated absorbent at higher temperature and excess pressure of 0.005-0.02 MPa.
