FIELD: mechanical engineering; internal combustion engines with spark ignition systems. SUBSTANCE: to reveal faulty plug engine is started and left for operation and then spark plug to be checked is connected electrically to engine frame or car frame by direct contact or through spark gap of any part along which high-voltage pulse is transmitted to spark plug. Condition of spark plug is judged by reduction or no reduction or engine speed. Device has needle or thin rod made for contacting with high- voltage parts of ignition system either directly or through spark gap, with possibility of electric contact with engine or car frame needle or rod is mounted on support.
