FIELD: mechanical engineering, mining industry. SUBSTANCE: given process can be employed to test quality of hard-alloy and diamond rock-breaking and metal-cutting tools. Process includes irradiation of tool with X-rays. Number of flaws present in hard-alloy and diamond rock-breaking tool is found in process of irradiation by number of pulses of acoustic emission. In this case tool displaying higher quality generates higher output of acoustic emission. As result there emerges possibility to select tools of higher yield strength standing higher breaking load by nondestructive process. EFFECT: enhanced reliability of process. 3 tbl
